Nautical Happy Birthday

This week the Cue Card for CASology  and The Challenge is Nautical.  Luckily I have a friend who has a birthday in a few days and she is a sailer so this is perfect.  Don't you just love the name of her boat!

I don't have any nautical stamps or dies so I had to be creative.  Below are nautical flags that symbolize letters in the sailing community.  I made flags based on this alphabet to spell out HAPPY, added some string for the mast rope.  I had a memory lapse and forgot to put the 'breezy swirls' on before I attached my blue sky piece to the card so they are in deeper than I planned because of the extra layer.  If you every get the chance to spend time on a sailboat on a clear day I recommend it!  It's great to lie down on the deck and look up at the sky through the billowing sails.  That view is the inspiration for this card.

My Mac and my camera both went kaput this week so I commandeered (I'm sure that's a nautical term) my son's computer and he has different photo editing software than I'm used to and I'm not quite happy with the pictures.  If I get the chance I will try to fix up them up sometime.

Hugs!

The cue card for this weeks CASology is kids.  Two things that immediately sprung to mind were fingerprints and finger painting, so I tried to combine the two in my card.  I inked up some old handprint stamps I have in rainbow colors for the finger painting.  For the finger prints, I stamped the same stamps in Versamark on the grey backgound paper.  Super simple card. The hugs sentiment is from a SSS set.

ETA:  I just remembered this fits in for Work It Wednesday over on the SSS Blog.

ETA: I'm so happy my card was chosen for an Honorable Mention for this weeks CASology!

My youngest son used to literally climb the walls at the end of the hallway which opens up to our kitchen leaving hand and footprints around the six foot mark (at least I didn't have to bend over to wash them off).  He would put a hand and foot on either side, scramble up and stay there until he could scare someone coming around the corner.  For the longest time we ducked going around the corner in case he was there.

Congrats Colman 2015 Graduate

How convenient for me that I just made a graduation card yesterday and the CASology cue card today is graduation!

ETA: What a nice surprise to receive an Honorable mention for my card at CASology!

This idea has been around for a while in various forms, bills rolled up as candles for a birthday age, etc.  I did see a graduation card recently with the bills rolled up to make the year 2015 but I don't remember who's it was or where I saw it sorry.  It is kind of unique because you can only do this for certain years.

I made this for my son's best friend, Colman, who graduates from grade 12 this year.  He is a fantastic kid and my son is lucky enough to be going along with him on his graduation trip to San Fransisco at the beginning of July.  I had a bit of U.S. money (we are in Canada) hanging around (unfortunately no $10 so the bills could be all level and I never thought to go to the bank) so he gets 2 twenties, a single and a five... which is about $300 Canadian with the current exchange rate!  Just kidding, it's bad but not that bad.

I just rolled the bills up and paper clipped them to stay, then I cut slits in the card to slide the paperclips into.  I probably just could have just used glue dots to keep them rolled together and attach them to the card - but I didn't. I did stamp 2015 underneath where the bills are so when he removes them, the year will still be on the card.
I boxed the graduate sentiment around the bills.

Pretty Pink Posh Watercolor Blog Hop Card Two

This is my second card for the Pretty Pink Posh Watercolor Blog Hop.  It's awesome to see all the different styles card makers have.  This is a color combination I do often, which is funny since I'm not a big fan of orange!

I embossed the SSS sentiment in white, then smooshed on some distress inks, adding extra water after to move the colors around a bit.  I absolutely love how it comes out different everytime you do it!  After it dried, I used an embossing folder with little hearts to add some extra interest and texture down the side.

Pretty Pink Posh Watercolor Blog Hop

I used a PTI stamp, embossed in Silver SSS embossing powder then watercolored between the lines with distress inks.  The sentiment is one of my fav's from Clearly Besotted.  The silver sequins give it the perfect extra bling.

I'm really enjoying seeing everyone's creations for the Pretty Pink Posh Watercolor Blog Hop!

ETA: throwing this one in to Work it Wednesday over on the Simon Says Stamp blog where rainbow is the challenge for the month.

Okay...I just noticed my card and the Blog Hop graphic are virtually the same!  That's a weird surprise!
